Visiting Paris is not an easy task. The great French city has the honor of hosting a large number of monuments and tourist places to discover calmly and with time. Among its streets and buildings there are a large number of green spaces that fill it with life.

I propose 6 of the points that cannot be missing in your Europe tour. If this is your first time visiting this spectacular city, I recommend that you take with you this list of some of the best places to visit.

#1 MONTMARTRE AND SACRED HEART

We start with the visit to one of the most picturesque neighborhoods of the Parisian city, Montmartre. There are many reasons why it has become a must-see stop on tours to Paris.

Did you know that it is located on a hill more than one hundred meters high from which it receives its name?

Well yes, one of its charms is its location, with some slopes – nothing out of this world if hiking or other nature activities is your thing – and a building that stands out from the rest, the Sacré Coeur Basilica or “ Sacred heart".

One of the most important religious buildings you will find in the city and which rises to more than 80 meters high. Its access through green stepped gardens makes it even more interesting.

Around the “Painters' Quarter” (as it is popularly known) you will find restaurants, shops, performance halls, museums, beautiful squares and the well-known cabarets such as the Moulin Rouge or the Lapin Agile.

#2 CRUISE ON THE SEINE RIVER

The Seine River is one of the most important rivers in France. If the history of Egypt cannot be understood without the Nile River, the same goes for the Seine and the history of Paris. The river divides the city in two and has been fundamental for its evolution and for the development of Parisian life.

The beauty of the Seine as it passes through Paris gives it a special charm. During the tour you can see some of the most emblematic buildings such as the great Eiffel Tower or the Notre Dame Cathedral.

A curious data! As it passes through the city there are 37 bridges that cross its waters. There are also two natural islands in the center, the island of Saint Louis and the island of la Cité (both a few meters away).

To see first-hand the greatness of the Seine I recommend a quiet river cruise. A boat trip is the perfect option to connect 100% with this incredible city.

#3 NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL

If you think about the most representative buildings in Paris, you will probably be like me and the majestic Notre Dame Cathedral.

Who doesn't remember the fun movie “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” which made us dream of its gargoyles?

It is probably one of the most famous Gothic cathedrals in the world. Its construction dates back to the 12th century and it was inaugurated in the 13th century, although many renovations have taken place since then. It is located surrounded by the Seine, on the island of la Cité.

If you go in one of our eco buses, tell the guide to stop for a few minutes to admire this work of art and you will be captivated by its naturalism and the color of its rose windows.

Although a terrible fire recently took place in 2019, magnificent recovery work is being carried out so that it shines again as it always has.

Write this building down on your list of “monuments to visit in Paris”. Without a doubt, you will not regret it.

#4 THE EIFFEL TOWER

If Notre Dame is the best-known religious building, the monument par excellence of Paris is the Eiffel Tower.

Built by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (hence its name) it was inaugurated in 1889, for the Universal Exhibition in Paris. Its more than 300 meters high made it the largest building in the world for many years. A symbol for France and a global icon through which it is estimated that more than 300 million visitors have already passed through (since its opening).

Going up its historic elevator to the top is a beautiful experience that will allow you to see the tons of wrought iron that was used for its construction while observing one of the best views of the “city of love.”

To visit the Eiffel Tower, you will have to go through the Champ de Mars. Fascinating gardens of almost 25 hectares that are a great “green lung” in the heart of the city.

#5 THE PALACE AND GARDENS OF VERSAILLES

If we talk about Paris, we cannot miss some of the great palaces that the city is home to, the Palace of Versailles standing out above all.

Visit Versailles, on the outskirts, is a real pleasure that will take you back to the 18th century, when baroqueism was at its peak and the governance of the important kingdom of France was exercised from here. The person in charge of this masterpiece par excellence was the “Sun King” or better known by Louis XIV, who took the pleasure society to unsuspected limits.

I recommend a guided tour, one of our favorites, through the palace and its interiors to admire its spectacular rooms such as the king and queen's chambers or the famous Gallery of Mirrors, where the Treaty of Versailles took place.

But this tour has one more addition that makes it even more interesting, the Gardens of Versailles. Nature comes to life throughout a large green space of French gardens that houses lakes, genuine geometric shapes and a multitude of species of trees, shrubs and flowers.

Almost 800 hectares of vegetation that will make you get lost in its paths and feel for a while as if you were in a fairy tale!

#6 THE LOUVRE MUSEUM

We give way to art and museum lovers. In 2018, the Louvre museum was the most visited museum in the world with more than 10 million visitors during that same year! Currently there is none that surpasses it and the Mona Lisa is a lot of Mona Lisa.

Leonardo Da Vinci's famous work of La Gioconda is the museum's great attraction. Other works you will find are: Liberty Leading the People (Delacroix), the Coronation of Napoleon (Jacques-Louis David) or the Venus de Milo (one of the best-known sculptures dedicated to Aphrodite).

Nor can you miss the famous Pyramid of the Louvre Museum, located in the central courtyard and built by the architect Leoh Ming Pei. If you have read Dan Brown's famous work, “The Da Vinci Code” you will surely remember it. Its genuine design will undoubtedly surprise you.

Once you have visited the 6 most important places in Paris you can choose other options to visit. I recommend you enjoy Parisian life by trying its delicious cuisine in many of its restaurants and also the vegan options that the city has.
