It is also not bad to have a basic situation guide before leaving to have everything under control before leaving. Don't forget to prepare your backpack with all the basic mountain equipment and good warm clothing. A map of the area is always welcome.
It is a route that should be done with caution, and always with an expert guide to accompany you, since the snow can make orientation difficult until we reach our objective. Therefore, it is best to play it safe and put a reference on your path, such as the wooden fence that goes up parallel to the path.
At the beginning, you will pass by the Virgen de las Nieves, an emblematic place for the friends of this mountain, which was built in honor of the story of the priest MartÃn de Mérida, who together with his trusted person MartÃn Soto, being in a month August 1717, crossing the Sierra Nevada and near the port of Carihuela, and frightened by a devastating storm, they prayed non-stop until the Virgin Mary appeared to them, who eased the snow and showed them the way back, calming the elements. and showing them the way to follow, saving their lives. For this reason, the pits near this place are called Tajos de la Virgen.
Already on the way up there is a path that takes us to the Refugio Vivac de la Carihuela, you can stop and enjoy a special place, pure mountain style, have a tea and continue again along the previous path.
Once at the top, having reached the top, the views to the south are unbeatable. In the distance you can see the Sierras Tejeda and Almijara of the province of Malaga with their peaks of Lucero and Maroma, a place without a doubt, special. And to the west, you will see the Alcazaba (3,371 m) and the Mulhacén peak (3,479 m), the supreme challenge of the brave men of the south.
